If your baby has dry skin that comes from eczema, there are a number of things that you can do to correct the situation. Make no mistake about it; you want to correct this situation. The reason is that dry skin is one of the major precursors to eczema flare ups, and you always want to deny eczema the dry skin opportunity to attack your baby. It is just too easy a problem to solve. In this article we will talk about some of the causes of dry skin and what you can do about it.

Inheritance

Inheritance is a natural dry skin problem that you may be able to do nothing to prevent. If you find that your baby has an inherited form of dry skin then maybe the things that you do to relieve your dry skin may be used on your baby with success as well.

Cool air

toddler rough dry skin patchCool weather is another time that dry skin problems become prevalent. The reason for this is that cool air is usually dry, and dry air has the tendency to pull moisture from the skin. In order to stop the cool air from doing this, if you are outdoors you will want to seal your moisturizer into your baby’s skin. A good way I know that you can do this is to apply a layer of Vaseline petroleum on top of your moisturizer. The jelly will provide a layer of protection that not even cool air will be able to penetrate.

Central air conditioning is a machine that creates cool dry air conditions indoors. This may not be a problem for many, but when your baby has dry skin, these conditions can be irritating to him. What you need to do is find a way of moistening the air inside the room.

One way of doing this immediately comes to mind. You can use a room humidifier to moisten and soften the air inside the room so that it does not burn his skin and cause him to begin itching.

Soap

You want to keep soap far away from your baby when he has eczema. Soap and detergents that foam have properties that destroy skin barrier oils, thus making your baby’s skin even more arid than it already is. This means that you should bathe your baby in all natural soaps. The things that you see being advertised as "for baby" will not help you. They will harm. Purchase an all natural soap, or better yet, make it yourself.

Food allergies can be the cause of eczema in toddlers and children of all ages. Probiotis, or ‘friendly bacteria’ can help reduce your child’s allergies to foods and cure the itching and general irritation found in infant eczema.

You have hundreds of trillions of bacteria in your digestive tract. They are a major part of your immune system. A healthy lower intestine should have about 85 percent of "good or friendly bacteria" or flora to prevent the over-colonization of disease causing micro-organisms like E. coli and salmonella. Today, most people have that number reversed.

Probiotics simply means "for life." When I ask someone if they take probiotics, I almost always get the response, "I eat yogurt." Yogurt contains acidophilus, but that is only one of hundreds of friendly bacteria we need. Our bodies should have somewhere between 400 and 500 types of bacteria. Probiotics inhibit the growth of harmful bacteria which cause digestive stress; they improve digestion and absorption of vitamins; stimulate the immune system, and help make vitamins needed by the body.

Gut flora can become unbalanced by illness, stress, and drugs, especially antibiotics. It just makes plain sense, that a drug called an "antibiotic" will kill even the helpful bacteria in the gut. Poor eating habits (fast and junk foods) and chlorinated drinking water also damage the intestinal flora.

Elizabeth Lipski, Ph.D. says in her book, "Digestive Wellness for Children", "The first two years of life are critical for our long-term immune responses. Bacterial colonization patterns set up in infancy continue to prevail throughout our entire lifetime-and the foods and drugs to which we expose our children dramatically affect this delicate balance."

revieve baby eczema with probiotic supplementsProbiotic supplementation promotes health in infants. Probiotics enhance digestion and mineral absorption. They prevent diarrhea and diaper rash, eczema and cradle-cap. Probiotics have been found to decrease anemia and asthma and diminishes milk allergies and they eliminate thrush. In older children, probiotics have been found to reduce the severity and frequency of childhood respiratory infections and help to prevent irritable bowel syndrome, diarrhea, and constipation. Because digestion is vital for health, children with various illnesses and syndromes have been shown to improve on some level when nutrition is addressed along with the addition of probiotics. You’ll want to consider probiotic supplementation especially for kids with allergies, ADHD, Autism (and the entire Autism spectrum), Celiac Disease, Constipation, Cradle Cap, Diarrhea, Diabetes, Halitosis, (bad breath), Eczema, and Leaky Gut Syndrome.

There are probiotics designed especially for infants and children. When shopping for probiotics look for lactobacilli and bifidobacteria. Lactobacilli is found in the small intestine and bifidobacteria is found in the colon. You can purchase probiotics for children at your whole foods store or online.

Wet wrap therapy is an excellent eczema natural treatment that does not involve the use of steroids. If you are suffering with red, swollen, and itchy eczema that has been keeping you up at night, then you may want to consider using this form of therapy.

Wet wrap therapy requires the use of wet bandages wrapped around the sore skin. Before the wet wrap therapy begins, the patient needs to soak in a bath with emollient oil. Then moisturizer is rubbed into the skin to make it moist. The bandages that are used for wet wrap therapy are soaked in warm water or a special moisturizer until very wet. The bandages are then wrapped on the area where the body has eczema. This therapy can be used on any part of the body that is affected by eczema, including the face. To help keep the moisture in, dry bandages are wrapped over the wet bandages.

The advantages to wet wrap therapy are many. This therapy helps to rehydrate the damaged skin, can help you sleep better, reduce itching, and decrease redness. Another benefit is that it decreases the chance that the bacteria that is on the skin naturally will develop into an infection.

There are some negatives to wet wrap therapy as well. For one thing, it takes quite a bit of time to do from start to finish and for children, this may be difficult because they do not like to sit still for long. Another negative is that some children and adults may find it hard to sit wrapped in wet bandages for the time required for the wet wrap therapy to work. In place of bandages, you can use moistened pajamas or other clothing to treat children or infants, which would be more comfortable. One thing that you need to keep in mind is that the temperature of the room should be comfortable for the patient, because sitting with wet bandages may make them feel cold.

ccareful bathing for your baby with eczema

Wet wrap therapy is an eczema natural treatment, that has reportedly brought relief to many sufferers. The greatest benefit is that it is safe to use for children with eczema. Children suffering from severe atopic dermatitis have found relief using it. Even when the two weeks of therapy ended, they still saw improvements. This therapy has also been found to help with moderate to severe hand dermatitis. Parents have been happy to recommend this form of eczema natural treatment, as a result.

When your baby has atopic eczema there are ways that you will want to feed him that would be slightly different from the foods and ways that you would feed a baby that does not have eczema. As you change and adjust your baby’s diet, you will find that increasingly better health will continue to creep up on him and take over his life.

When choosing food and nutritional means of getting rid of atopic eczema in your baby you choose a powerful and viable means of getting rid of your baby’s atopic eczema for good. In some of the tests that were conducted, women who followed the guidelines were able to get rid of atopic eczema at a steady increase of 24% more than people who did not work with the study, or people who received the placebo instead of the actual nutritional supplement.

In the study mentioned above you will also want to know that the 24% mentioned is the low and basic level that was attained. With other simple additions the rate was increased by another 17% which created a combined total of 24% + 17% = 41%. Do you agree with me when I say that these type results warrant a closer look at the way these foods are able to accomplish this feat in such a terrible disease.

cause of eczema in toddlers

You should also know that breastfeeding can starve the life out of eczema. If you were to breastfeed your baby you will decrease both the severity and frequency of atopic eczema flare ups that your baby has. When you use the right fats and other nutritional supports, you will find that the support you eat and pass on to your baby will be able to protect him from eczema well beyond his 4th birthday. These are the type of results that were achieved in a study involving over 400 people.

It was also found that the babies who only receatopic toddler rash photosived placebos instead of the nutritional supplements saw no effect on their eczema beyond that of the regular breastfeeding.

With atopic eczema you will also find that there are other basic treatments that you can do that will take out more than 85% of the cause of eczema flare ups. If you get this area covered, and combine these effects with that of your nutritional supports you will get rid of more than 85% of your atopic baby eczema problems.

Treating eczema in toddlers can be quite easy, and often starts by ensuring you bath and cloth your baby using the correct matrials and substances.

If you see red marks, patches and skin eruptions on your baby, he may be suffering from baby eczema. Depending on the age, your child may not be able to describe things to you. This can make it a bit difficult. By observation though you can see if there is itching and scratching. Your child may be unable to sleep as well due to the skin eruption irritations and the histamine release which leads to relentless itching.

First of all, give your child more love and try to distract him with new games you can invent. Let him know how special he is and important to you. This creates a sense of security and comfort. Stress can aggravate itching and you want to create an environment where he is feeling safe. Putting on little mittens can reduce the scratching problem, though you probably will need to use an antihistamine for sleep.

baby eczema pictures and photosIs your child wearing cotton? Other fabrics can irritate the skin or cause a reaction for someone with sensitive skin. This also includes what type of blanket he is wrapped in during the day as well as what’s in his crib or bed. Use an allergy-free detergent to wash his clothing and bed sheets. Kids often outgrow allergies as they get older, but at this point there may be reactions to many environmental factors. He may be allergic to dust mites and be responding to humidity and other room elements, so study the rooms he spends the most time in.

After a bath, be sure to lather on a sensitive skin moisturizer as this is key in healing eczema dry skin rashes. Don’t rub the towel on him after the bath but gently pat the skin. Also scrubbing the skin is not a good idea, though some people think this will assist it in shedding it’s dryness. Remember to keep the bath water warm but not hot.

Treating baby eczema can take as big a toll on the parents as the child so keep your own energy up as well by exercising and good nutrition. Your attitude will help your child’s in dealing with this period of discomfort.

Get Rid Of Diaper Rash Once And For All!

Your baby does not need to suffer from the irritation of diaper rash! As a loving parent and guardian, while you attempt to do your very best for your children, there are baby products with harsh ingredients being sold on the market. As a parent who has the innate desire to gain and apply as much wisdom as possible for your baby’s greatest good, come to know that your child’s baby skin care is a topic of importance. Your decisions in buying diaper rash products can affect your child’s health.

Baby Skin Care Research
A current report in Clinical Pediatrics reveals that more than seventy-five percent of newborns suffer rashes within the first few months of birth. Researchers suspect that contributing factors include the very products that promise to help babies’ skin. They note in their research, "Newborn skin is relatively more permeable to topically applied agents than adult skin. Therefore, the risk of systemic toxicity is much greater in newborns." If parents stop to read labels of supermarket and drug store baby skin care products, they will find that:

Many contain ingredients likely to be contaminated with formaldehyde, 1,4-dioxane, and possibly even nitrosamines, all of which are cancer-causing, highly irritating or both. Baby talc-based powders contain tiny particles that irritate the skin and may contain perfumes, a leading cause of allergy and irritation. Parents would be wise to avoid baby powders containing talc. Although baby powders are most frequently applied to diaper rash, there can be better ways. Also, most pediatricians specializing in natural skin care warn parents to avoid petroleum jelly, which traps moisture against the skin and is also a common allergen.

diaper rash home remedies

Healthy Baby Skin Care
A parent would be wise to use baby skin care products free of artificial colors, synthetic fragrances and petrochemicals, which are themselves irritants. Look for pure baby skin care products that are pH balanced with natural healing herbal extracts and essential oils such as Calendula, Aloe and Chamomile. Baby friendly healing herbs to look for in diaper rash cream and diaper rash ointment include:

Calendula: Calendula provides anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial activities and stimulates cellular regeneration of healthy skin.

Aloe: Aloe Vera helps restore tissue integrity and provides soothing anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant properties.

Chamomile: Chamomile inhibits the release of histamine and decreases the inflammatory response. It stimulates cellular regeneration of healthy skin.

Rose Hip: Rose Hip contains high levels of vitamin C and bioflavonoids which strengthen blood vessel walls, increasing vascular resistance and integrity and thus improving skin circulation.

Evening Primrose Oil, Sunflower Oil: These cold-pressed oils provide the essential fatty acids omega-3 (linolenic acid) and omega-6 (linoleic acid) as well as GLA (gamma-linolenic acid), important modulators of the inflammatory response. Help regulate epidermal proliferation and desquamation of the skin.

Carrot Seed Oil: Carrot Seed Oil is an exceptional moisturizer for skin care and promotes healthy cellular regeneration.

Sambucus: Sambucus (Elderflower) promotes healing of skin conditions and reduces inflammation associated with allergies.

Vitamin A: Vitamin A is necessary for the growth and repair of body tissues and helps maintain healthy skin integrity. It improves the resistance of the skin and mucous membranes to chemical and physical irritants.

Vitamin C and Bioflavonoids: Vitamin C and bioflavonoids work synergistically to strengthen connective tissue in blood vessel walls, thereby increasing vascular resistance and integrity, and improving circulation. Vitamin C’s anti-oxidant action provides photo-protective effects against UVB-induced damage in human epithelial cells. It supports immune and endocrine system function.

Vitamin E: Vitamin E is a powerful anti-oxidant that helps retard cellular aging associated with free-radical damage. Protects the skin against UV-induced inflammation and maintains skin hydration. It regulates abnormal proliferation of the superficial skin layers.

Baby Skin Care Tip
So what is the most sensible approach when it comes to baby skin care? Parents, your basic baby skin care common sense message is: In the beginning months of life, let Mother Nature do her job without your newborn baby having to cope with chemicals. Allow fresh air to get to your baby’s bottom whenever you can and change your baby’s diaper often! This will reduce the likelihood of diaper rash. Pediatricians also recommend avoiding antibacterial soaps. Use skincarebaby.com natural skin care products that avoid toxic preservatives, foaming agents and other potentially hazardous ingredients. If any of the family members is suffering from this disease then others will also be contaminated and may cause eczema or any of the other two.

There can be various causes of eczema as stated below:

  • Change in a habituate temperature or humidity
  • Unlike allergies (to dust, mold, animal, etc.)
  • Chemical irritants: pesticides, paint strippers, alcohol, astringents, perfumes, harsh soaps, detergents and home cleaners
  • Physical irritants: synthetical clothes, clothes made of wool
  • Emotional stress
  • Any kind of infection

All the above things may cause or may give lift to eczema. Any link with substance that irritates the skin is known as irritant contact dermatitis. This is caused by direct contact between skin and the substance like detergent, soap, alcohol, strong chemical, cleaner, perfume, and so on another cause of eczema is the contact with substances that may cause you allergy. If your todder has eczema on his or her head, then this might be what is commonly refered to as ‘Cradle Cap’. Although it may look serious, this form of eczema is harmless and easily treated. You can find out more below

All You Want To Know About Cradle Cap

This article defines cradle cap and discusses all the other frequently asked questions about the disease. Being in question answer form, this article will be easily understandable and highly useful.

What is Cradle Cap?

Cradle cap is a rather temporary and harmless skin disease generally suffered by infants of two months to two years of age. In the dermatological terminology, this skin condition is termed as infantile or neonatal seborrhoeic dermatitis. The ailment is also known as crusta lactea, milk crust, or honeycomb disease. Generally, it is not itchy; hence, it does not bother the baby very much.

What are the symptoms?

In Cradle Cap, the effected area gets covered with yellowish, patchy, greasy, scaly, and crusty skin rashes. The rashes occur on the scalp of recently born babies and are often prominent around the ear, the eyebrows or the eyelids. Most commonly, it begins to occur sometime in the first 3 months after the birth of the baby. The same skin condition may appear in other locations as well. But in that case, it is called seborrhoeic dermatitis rather than cradle cap.

cradle cap shampoo and treatment

What are the causes?

In fact, the cause behind cradle cap is not clearly defined yet. However, it is certain that the disease is not caused by any infection, allergy or from maintaining poor hygiene. It is believed that cradle cap has to do with overactive sebaceous glands in the skin of newborn babies. The overactivity of the sebaceous glands is due to the presence of mother’s hormones in the baby’s circulation.

Scientists also believe that skin yeasts, scientifically known as Pityrosporum ovale and newly renamed as Malassezia furfur, is responsible for cradle cap. It has been speculated by nutritionally oriented practitioners that the disorder is caused by the baby’s immature digestive system. They opine that the digestive system of the patient cannot absorb sufficient biotin and other vitamins of the B-complex.

 What is the remedy?

cradle cap pictures in toddlersSince the actual cause behind cradle cap is not clear yet, there is no absolute treatment for it. Dermatologists commonly advice to apply vegetable or mineral oil liberally to the scalp and let it soak in overnight. Considering the fact that Malassezia yeasts thrive in oily environments, some are advised to leave the oil for lesser periods of time. The softened scales can then be brushed away with a soft brush, toothbrush, comb, or cloth.

Some of the dermatologists recommend application of petroleum jelly (e.g., Vaseline) liberally overnight as another popular treatment. Mild baby shampoo is often recommended; but specialists are not unanimous about it. Yet, ketoconazole shampoos and creams are taking first place in medical treatment of moderate to serious cradle cap. In mild cradle cap cases, home remedies are thought to be the appropriate treatment. Fore more information visit www.purebabyuk.com.

Is It Baby Acne, Heat Rash, Or Cradle Crap?

Do you know whether your baby is suffering from baby acne, cradle crap, or heat rash? Find out the characteristics of these conditions, and what the two types of infant acne are.

There are a number of skin conditions that babies can get, and two different types of acne. Each one has different treatments and recommendations, so it’s good to know the symptoms of each.

Cradle Crap

Like neonatal acne, cradle crap and seborrheic dermatitis are related to the hormonal changes associated with pregnancy, which cause the oil glands to go into overdrive. Cradle crap is:

* crusty, scaly, red patches on baby’s scalp
* caused by overactive sebaceous glands (these produce the skin’s oil)
* there can also redness in the crease of the baby’s neck, armpits, and behind his ears
* when it is only on the scalp, it is cradle crap. When it spreads all over the face, and in the diaper area, it is called seborrheic dermatitis. You should contact your doctor to get a stronger shampoo or alternative treatment if this occurs.

Heat Rash

toddler rash photo Heat rash can occur in anyone, though babies are more vulnerable because their sweat glands aren’t fully developed. Thus, they are less able to re-balance their core body temperature. Heat rash is characterized by very small bumps on the skin, surrounded by a red area. Heat rash:

Baby Acne

Like teenage acne, baby acne occurs more often in boys than girls. Unlike later forms of acne, it is generally mild or moderate, and rarely severe.

It generally occurs on the face of infants – usually the cheeks, though it can spread to the chin and forehead. When this type of acne is mild to moderate, it is unlikely to lead to permanent scarring. However, if the acne is severe, scars can occur that last into adulthood. Those babies who develop severe acne usually get acne vulgaris when they reach the teenage years. Acne vulgaris is the most common type of acne people suffer from.

Neonatal acne can include features of regular acne like whiteheads and blackheads, as well as papules and pustules. Papules do not have pus in them, and look like small, solid, raised areas of the skin. Pustules do have pus in them, as the name suggests. Pustules generally form in sweat glands or hair follicles. It is composed of inflammatory cells as well as pus.  augmentin rash toddler
When there are no comedomes (whiteheads and blackheads), babies may have what is call neonatal cephalic pustulosis. This is a result of an infection by a genus of yeasts called malassezia. There are a number of different species belonging to this genus, although it has not been established whether the different species cause particular skin conditions. Malassezia yeasts can cause seborrhoeic dermatitis and dandruff, as well as neonatal cephalic pustulosis and a range of other conditions.

Neonatal cephalic pustulosis doesn’t usually need treatment, though a topical antifungal cream can be applied.
